Setting Up the Board Game

Instructions:
Print the game boards, cut apart and laminate for durability.
Gather manipulatives for game pieces.
Label and store in a task card box or bag.
Playing the Game
Students will roll the die and move the amount of spaces indicated. Once they land on a space, they will read the word aloud to their partner.
Their partner will double-check to make sure they are correct. Then, it’s their turn to roll and read. Players take turns until one of them gets to the ending space.
Other Ideas to Play the Game
To provide added practice with writing and spelling CVC words, students could write down the words they landed on or their favorite words on the game board.
More advanced students could write words that rhyme with the spaces they land on. They could also use one word in a sentence at the end of each game.
Students who need more support could play the games during small group instruction.
