The former WWE champion Dave Bautista looks like a fraction of his former self after trimming down a considerable amount of weight for his movie “The Killer’s Game”
The former WWE champion turned actor, Dave Bautista has talked openly about losing a considerable amount of weight and said he wasn’t thrilled with the way his body changed. The 55-year-old actor and former wrestler, known in the arena as “Batista,” has impressively lost 80 pounds, going from 320 pounds to 240 pounds. Even though his muscle mass has decreased, Bautista is happy and at ease with his physical appearance.
Bautista believes that his excessive weight and size have started to cost him acting roles. Dave realized he had to take a step back as he explored and ventured into other projects. Bautista is most known for his role as Drax in the Marvel universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy series. His next movie, Killer’s Game, is set to be released in four days.
“I started trimming down for a particular reason. Why I did it is because I got fat. I got really big for a role, rather uncomfortably big. I was around 315 pounds and put on weight really fast. When I was younger, I was carrying lots of muscle. This weight I put on between films and gained it rather quickly with French fries and pancakes. The director told me ‘I don’t want you to look like a power-lifter. I just want you to look like this great big guy’ And now looking back, I think I overdid it. It took me forever to shed it off.”
“Then I noticed the more I trimmed down, the better I look on camera, next to other actors. The more I trimmed down, the better I feel. People tell me ‘you’re skinny’. I saw online that people are worried about my health. I say it out loud to people I am 6’4 and 240 pounds. But to me, because people have seen me so much over the years, I am still a big human being. I am killing myself to be this trim, I am training hard. My calories are pretty restricted. Maybe 2500 a day.”
Dave Bautista career highlights
For those who follow fitness and entertainment, Dave Bautista is a living legend. In the professional wrestling realm, he went by the stage name “Batista,” making a reputation for himself alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena and other well-known figures in the expanding sport.
From his debut at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), which is now NXT, to his final bout at WrestleMania 35 in 2019, Bautista was, as he said, a massive dude when he was a full-time member of the WWE. As ‘Batista’ feuded with the greatest WWE performers, including Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, John Cena, Randy Orton, Edge, Rey Mysterio, and many more, he became the four-time World Heavyweight Champion and the two-time WWE Champion. He was nearly always at or above 320 LBS. In order to pursue a career in acting, Batista left the WWE in 2009, ending his full-time career in the ring.
After a five-year break, Batista made a comeback and emerged victorious in the 2014 Royal Rumble, securing a spot in the main event of WrestleMania 30. However, he was defeated by Daniel Bryan following his tapout due to the ‘Yes Lock’. Batista left again for five years, so his comeback was fleeting. When his professional wrestling career finally came to an end in 2019, he lost to the Game in a match that he had long been training for, but he did it on his terms and with great satisfaction.
Fans have been enthralled by Bautista’s muscular body and imposing physique for years, and not only in the ring. After playing Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which debuted with the smash movie Guardians of the Galaxy, he went on to become an incredibly popular actor. Due to his versatility as a performer, Bautista has a large following of people who keep a close eye on his life.
