Christmas is fast approaching. It’s scary how quickly this whole year has gone. But I just think the moment fall comes around our minds just naturally wander to Christmas, am I right? For some organised people out there you might be sitting with smug faces thinking you are all done and dusted for the holiday season. For others, you could just be thinking about it.
Well, it’s time to get organised. You won’t believe how less stressful Christmas can be when you don’t leave things to the last minute.
But how can you do it? No matter what time of the year it is, you can always be thinking ahead to Christmas. There are things you can buy, things you can prepare, and steps you can take to have a more relaxed December. Being more organised will give you the chance to really enjoy what the festive season has to offer.
So, I thought I would share with you some top tips to get organised and ready for the festive season ahead.
Top tips to get organised for the festive season ahead
Create lists
If we are honest, we know that organised people are list writers. Writing up a list can save you a lot of hassle and time. It’s a way of downloading all those ideas you have in your mind and having them safe somewhere for you to refer back to.
List what you need to do
Who you need to buy for
List gift ideas and budgets
If you like, you could always print off Christmas-focused lists to use or even treat yourself to a Christmas planner. They usually have sections for things like food, gifts, decorations and even elf-on-the-shelf ideas to help you get organised and plan successfully.
What about the Christmas budget?
The sooner you start thinking about Christmas, is the moment you may start to panic about the financial side of things. Many people save up throughout the year, but others may find that they need some extra help around the holiday season.
Your financial situation isn’t always the easiest of things to think about or a topic of conversation to have, but setting a budget or being realistic about what you can afford is essential.
Start saving now and put a little bit of money aside if you can afford to do so. Or if you spread the cost by buying things over the course of the year it won’t feel like such a financial hit when it comes to December.
Get those Christmas cards written up
Christmas cards can be one of the hardest things to get out on time. They can just be long-winded with all the writing and sending off in time for the Christmas post. So that being said, get this, chore out of the way as soon as you can.
The same can be said if you decide to throw a Christmas party or gathering. One of the biggest jobs is getting those Christmas party invitations sent out to your guests. Again give yourself plenty of time to do this and consider having them printed to save time.
Start bulk buying the food
We know that Christmas is a time of eating and drinking with friends and family. While you can’t stock up on the fresh stuff, you can begin to buy in the food and drink that will last. This helps spread the cost of Christmas over a few weeks instead of feeling the pinch in one big food bill.
You could buy one or two items with each weekly food shop. Whether that is an extra bottle of wine or pop, some bags of crisps or chocolates. You will find that the supermarkets start to stock those Christmas food items sooner than you realise.
Buy gifts as and when you see them
If you are out shopping and suddenly inspired by a gift idea, get it there and then. You will either forget it or regret it if you don’t purchase it. Buying gifts as and when you can not only help spread the cost but it also gets you super organised. Meaning there is no Christmas rush.
Start wrapping early
Finally, when you buy a gift, wrap it up and put it away. The last thing you want is a huge pile of gifts to wrap all at once. You will feel so much better knowing this job is done, and you are prepared for the big day ahead.
I hope these top tips help you get organised for the Christmas season ahead.
